MFI
Mission

Too many students have been left behind when it comes to crucial skills for certain sectors by the traditional education system. MFI was started by students from Midwest backgrounds as a scalable solution to this problem.

MFI creates a unique environment for students to collaboratively aggregate resources not offered by their existing curriculum, or restricted to private programs.

Our custom, independent platform allows the use of various media formats and existing free content. This combined with the diversity of contributing members, eliminates the traditional limitations of existing programs.

Rather then making instructional documents, slide decks, or telling peers to figure it out on their own, MFI creates a centralized place for students to redirect others looking for guidance.

Meet Alex N.

A former community college student, Alex transitioned to a four-year university, and secured a financial analyst role at Johnson & Johnson since joining MFI.

Democratizing Workshops

The concept of workshops and seminars in sectors like banking is already present at many flagship universities.

Programs such as Gies’ IB Academy, the Hawkinson Institute, and Kelley’s IB Workshop have seen significant success.

However, universities actively choose to limit these opportunities to a miniscule number of students each year. Further, students at smaller schools and CCs largely have no access to such programs.

The value proposition of MFI is not a lateral replacement for these initiatives, but was started as a step forward in providing the value and skills they offer to all students.

As we are not a university body, our only priority is open information and serving students.

Even as the organization expands, we will never prioritize placement over access, or limit membership.

A New Vision

Over the last year, we’ve seen how open education across various specialized fields—not just the financial sector—are driving students to the organization.

Since fall ‘2024, we’ve gained more members across formats for those in the college preparation space, for example, than financial workshops. MFI no longer represents a solution for one select area, but an opportunity to level the playing field in any area where the best resources are cost prohibitive.

In the spirit of this larger vision, we’ve made the decision to rebrand later this year to reflect the goal of reaching as many students as possible.
